description: Flood maps are the principal communication tool used to convey various aspects of flood behavior, including depth, level, velocity, velocity and hazard. The maps generally display a representation of peak flood values (e.g. maximum flood depth), presented as an ‘envelope’ of results, such that although the peak values do not occur everywhere at the same time, the values presented are based on taking the maximum which occurred at each computational point in the model during the entire flood simulation. Hence, a presentation of peak levels does not represent an instantaneous point in time, but rather an envelope of the maximum values which occurred over the duration of the flood event.
